RODS
The backbone of any fishing outfit is the rod. For the last 8 years I have used nothing but G.Loomis for all of my cod fishing. Although they are quite expensive, these rods soar well above all others.
For trolling I use an MBR 845c seven foot rod in the GL3 grade. This rod gives me all the power I need, and affords me the sensitivity required to detect any variance in the lure's action. From 12 to 25 pound rated, this rod is a serious weapon!
G.Loomis make different grades of
blanks from the basic GL model, through to the mighty GLX range. For
trolling large lures however, the base models are more than adequate. I
have found over the years that the Magbass range are perfect for our cod
fishing. Their fast action and solid base are everything you could
possibly want and more. Many of my friends have been left in a state of
disbelief, at the treament these rods will handle, when trying to crack a
snagged lure free.
For casting I use a CR 723 in the GLXrange. This 6 foot rod also has a
fast action and is rated from 10 to 17 pound. Casting requires more
subtilise, and it is for this very reason I opt for the higher grade of blank.
In my opinion, the GLX range of G.Loomis rods have no equal!
Ever since I started using these rods for casting, my accuracy has improved at
least ten percent. A ten percent increase in cast accuracy ultimately
leads to more fish.
